My favourite thing about traveling is experiencing new cultures and ways of life. The Maldives provided nothing short of resorts and hotels that really allowed their guests to experience the Maldivian Island lifestyle. Cocoa Island is a resort only a forty minute speed boat trip from the capital Male. It is the sister island to Maalifushi, and although it isn’t as new as Maalifushi, it is still one amazing island.
Here are some photos I took from around the island. The island is small and intimate (you can jog around it in 8 minutes). All of the accommodation is overwater boat style. There is a boardwalk that stretches out into the water that you walk on to get to your room. There is a restaurant with a bar and an infinity pool, alongside a spa centre with hydro and aqutherapy pools. There is also a watersports centre where you can rent and book any water activities. Similar to what I mentioned with Maalifushi island a lot of the activities are complimentary on the island including yoga classes, snorkeling tours, snorkelling gear. You can also book island picnics, take out a catamaran and get involved with many other activities that are on a weekly activity sheet that you are given upon arrival.
I think one of the best things about this island was that everyday you get 150 US Credits to spend on whatever you like whether that be Tuesday at the bar or Wednesday on a fishing or snorkelling trip. You’ll love it!
